In this video, Dr. Omid Asghari discusses the concept of smart 3D modeling and metallurgical modeling. He presents an ideal system with fully connected components, similar to an intelligent drilling system. This system employs sensors during drilling to perform real-time analysis, including mineralogy assessment and rock hardness measurement. The gathered data is then processed, allowing for geometry and modeling. The system can dynamically adjust drilling direction or firing patterns based on real-time analysis. Dr. Asghari delves into recent advancements that have significantly impacted data acquisition, such as the emergence of drones equipped with RGB cameras for rapid elevation mapping. Tools like electromagnetic and magnetometry sensors have also improved data collection speed. He highlights the evolution of data collection methods over the past decade, emphasizing the integration of machine learning and deep learning for modeling complex interactions between different geological features. Dr. Asghari also discusses the application of machine learning techniques like random forest and graph-based modeling for mineral modeling and geological analysis. He touches upon the role of Geo-metallurgy, which bridges exploration data with processing insights, enabling better resource estimation and ore blending for enhanced production planning.
Dr. Omid Asghari has completed his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in Mining Engineering with a focus on Exploration at Amirkabir University of Technology. He is a member of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences. Dr. Asghari boasts a 7-year background in the field of geological modeling, estimation, classification, and resource evaluation. He has taught at Tehran and Kashan universities, specializing in reserve assessment, sampling, and statistics. Currently, he serves as an associate professor at the Faculty of Mining, University of Tehran. Dr. Asghari holds the position of the director at UniDro Institute. UniDro is a research-oriented institution that aims to foster collaboration between industry and academia, utilizing the resources of national and international educational and research centers. The institute operates under the auspices of the University of Tehran and the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Mining Industries in the private sector.
